An Unconventional Partnership: A New Sound
Chris Wolf sat down with The Mellowtone Duo to talk about the upcoming Fundraiser Concert in support of the Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg.
"For Caron and Spencler, the October 3rd performance is about more than presenting an unusual collection of repertoire. It is an opportunity to introduce audiences to possibilities within chamber music that they may not have encountered before.
Caron says she has become particularly attached to the music they have been exploring throughout the preparation for the concert.
“Well, I've just fallen in love with the repertoire that we've been learning and exploring,” she said. “It's definitely not something I've heard much before. And I'm really excited for audiences to learn more about the percussion world and what it can do and the colors that it can bring to chamber music.”
Spencler shares that enthusiasm. For him, performing with the Mellowtone Duo is a chance to demonstrate the role percussion can play beyond the traditional orchestral and solo settings in which audiences might normally encounter it.
“Likewise, I'm extremely excited to show off some percussion in a chamber setting to the viewers at this Women's Musical Club event,” he said.
