WMC is pleased to announce their collaboration with Winnipeg’s newest music group, Contemporary Music Interactive. Besides having a really cool name, CMI has a fabulous initiative, that being to bring up-and-coming Manitoba composers to the stage and to give audiences a greater understanding and enjoyment of new music with a look behind the compositional curtain.
CMI launches its second season in May, and WMC is putting its whole-hearted support behind their young directors, who demonstrate a passion for making contemporary music more accessible for modern audiences. Director River Sawchyn adds, "CMI concerts are built equally around performance and exploration, the composers guiding the audience through their inspirations, artistic process and final creations."
Eight composers were selected by the panel to present their music this season. You will not want to miss hearing the works of Nic Bray, Aaron Price, Marko Marinic, Guy Fernand Michaud, Willyn Whiting, Elisheva Schwartz, Tamir Moore-Freedman, and Dianna Neufeld. The performers in this year’s concerts are well-known to Manitoba audiences, among them Mel Braun, Laura Loewen, John Himes, and Anica Warkentine.
All of the above amounts to a brilliant piece of work by directors Sophie Reimer-Epp and River Sawchyn.
